Spiritual
Mind, body and spirit tend to be lumped together. The first two are straightforward; the third, less so. The words ‘spirit’ and ‘spiritual’ tend to conjure images of supplicants in prayer, or people in kaftans waving dream catchers around.
The spirit is a challenging concept because it isn’t tangible. You can’t see or touch it, but it’s always there. Whatever it is, it’s very private. Often, if you ask people about their beliefs, faith or personal philosophy, you can tell from their body language or stony silences that they are uncomfortable.
It’s a no-go area for some – but we are going there anyway.
Many people avoid mention of the spiritual, because they don’t want to impose or intrude upon other people’s private beliefs – or lack of them – in any way. This is an understandable decision.
However your spirit, or your sense of self, is key to the way you live your life – regardless of what you think or believe.
